The Original Sherlock Holmes stories written in the late 1800s, prudish Victorian England, had Irene Adler as completely independent and outwitting Sherlock Holmes. She was the woman who got away and matched him intellectually.

In the BBC Sherlock, she gets all of her advice for getting to Sherlock from Moriarty, so she’s not so clever after all. Also, Sherlock remains largely unaffected while she somehow fell in love with him and it was her crush that allowed him to triumph and figure out the code. Another point is that she might have been playing a role for the beginning and toying with him since sexuality is not his forte but he ended up turning it around and somehow with the power of the mighty brain and penis, make a self-identified gay woman attracted to him. Way to erase female sexuality that doesn’t include males because it’s not possible and gay women don’t exist, they are just bisexuals waiting for the right man. They never should have written that she said she was gay. Also, at the end, since Sherlock took away all of her protection, he had to save her like a ‘damsel in distress’. She was badass until the end. The real Irene Adler would have outsmarted Sherlock. I love BBC Sherlock but if the last part could have been cut and re-written better, it would be perfect.
